Couples who are celebrating a wedding anniversary of 10, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60 or more years in 2017 will be honored on Feb. 11 during a World Marriage Day Celebration sponsored by the Family Life Office of the Diocese of Brownsville.
Couples from all over the Valley attend a special Mass of Thanksgiving at the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle National Shrine in San Juan. The Most Reverend Bishop Daniel E. Flores celebrated the Mass and gave a blessing to these couples who bear witness to God’s love through their love and commitment to each other through the Sacrament of Matrimony.
Family Life Director Lydia Pesina explained that World Marriage Day is devoted to celebrating marriage of all ages, especially the landmark anniversaries of couples who have been married 25 and 50 years or more. In the Catholic Christian community, a couple accepts the blessing of God and bears witness to His love by accepting each other as companions forever and by accepting the blessing of children through the Sacrament of Matrimony.
