Annually, the Office of Evangelization and Catechesis organizes a large diocesan event to begin the new program year known as the Catechetical Convocation. During this Convocation, all our Parish Catechetical Leaders (PCLs) and catechists come together to celebrate and pray with our chief catechist, Bishop Daniel E. Flores. During this celebration we take time to recognize catechists who have completed 10, 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 Years of Service. If applicable, we also celebrate and present the Diocesan Certificates of Master Catechist and/or Director of Religious of Education to those individuals who have completed their required formation as established by Diocesan Guidelines. This event usually takes place on or around Catechetical Sunday, the third Sunday of September in the United States. Historically, we have hosted this gathering in a convention center or large hall that within the past few years has been held at the McAllen Convention Center, Jacob Brown Auditorium, St. Joan of Arc Parish Hall, Weslaco Performing Arts Center and the Harlingen Convention Center.
