DAILY MASS - Develop a habit of attending Daily Mass. Center your life around the Eucharist.
PRAY – Pray! Pray! Pray! And, Pray! St. Josemaria Escriva writes, “You don't know how to pray? Put yourself in the presence of God, and as soon as you have said, 'Lord, I don't know how to pray!" you can be sure you have already begun” (The Way, 97). A candidate needs to develop an interior life. The sacrifice of the Holy Mass, the Word of God, Liturgy of the Hours, mental prayer, the rosary, visits to the tabernacle, silence, devotions, and other spiritual exercises help the discernment process.
DEVOTIONS – The Church contains several devotions. For example, the Rosary or the Divine Mercy chaplet can help the candidate discern his vocation.
READING SCRIPTURE – The candidate needs to love the Word of God. The priest reads the Word of God in the Liturgy of the Hours and Holy Mass. Bishop Daniel Flores said, “The Word of God leads you to the Sacrifice.”
SEEK ADVICE – If priesthood becomes attractive, we recommend that you approach a priest and ask him about priesthood. If he is unable to help, you can ask if he can direct you to another priest.
SERVICE – A candidate can discover his vocation in serving others. We recommend that you serve in different ministries in the parish or in the diocese.
DECIDE - A healthy discernment challenges the candidate to decide. Christ waits and respects the person’s will. However, Christ does expect a decision.
