Every 25 years, the Church celebrates a Holy Year and allows the faithful to pilgrimage to the Holy Door and obtain an indulgence. In Spes Non Confundit, the Bull of Indiction for the ordinary Jubilee, Pope Francis writes, "In the heart of each person, hope dwells as the desire and expectation of good things to come, despite our not knowing what the future may bring." Pilgrims of Hope is the motto of the 2025 Jubilee year.
The Gospels recount the moment when Jesus reveals his divine glory, the splendor of Truth and Love. God is light, and Jesus wishes to give His closest friends the experience of this light which dwells within Him. The Latin root “trans-“ means “across” or “through.” The root “figura” means “form” or “shape.” His feast is celebrated 40 days prior to the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, manifesting its close connection with it.
Pope Pius XII proclaimed the Dogma of Mary’s assumption of body and soul into heaven. Since death and the corruption of the human body are consequences of sin, it was not right that the Virgin Mary – who is free from sin – should be affected by this natural law. Hence the mystery of her “Assumption into heaven”.
