Special Mass for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI to be held at San Fernando Cathedral on Wednesday, Jan. 4
A special liturgy in remembrance of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. at San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio. All are invited and welcome to attend the service.
Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, of the Archdiocese of San Antonio will be the presider at this memorial Mass, with concelebrants comprising the bishops of Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, who are currently meeting in San Antonio for their annual retreat. Auxiliary Bishop Mario A. Avilés will represent the Diocese of Brownsville.
The prelates are member of Region X, one of 14 geographic regions in which the archdioceses and dioceses of America are divided for purposes of United States Conference of Catholic Bishops proceedings. The bishops of Region X meet in early January each year at Oblate School of Theology for a spiritual retreat and business sessions.
The liturgy will be televised live on Catholic Television of San Antonio - Spectrum Channel 15, on Facebook at @catholictvsa, and on YouTube at Catholic TV SA.
The funeral Mass for Pope Emeritus Benedict will be held at the Vatican on Thursday, Jan. 5.
